What if there was actually someone with a gun who meant to hurt me or others? I'll probably never go to another dark, crowded place again.

There's never a 100% chance it would save you, but were you carrying? I mean, the ability to actually try to save myself gives me at least a bit more peace of mind.

Because, as I'm sure many Communists would argue, it's a theory being put into practice, and thus has unknown/uncertain outcomes. The implementation is the only way to know for SURE. Now, I'd argue the test has been ran enough to relegate the idea to the trash heap.

It does work on paper, because paper doesn't involve the inherent selfishness of people. It's once it leaves paper and comes to reality that people play a factor. Lol

In reality, they were all different takes on the writings of Engles and Marx. They all had the same basic ideal, means of production controlled by the people. But, this was never truly implemented in any of those nations (because it's not really a viable power structure, and so it's seized by the opportunistic ones in govt. instead).

I think that an open war with China (or any nuclear nation) would involve far less troops and much more mass death for the entire world lol.

That certainly is a possibility. Really, the outcome of any predictions of a war between advanced nuclear nations is difficult to make if only because it could go a few different ways: totally conventional, tactically nuclear, totally nuclear. The latter, certainly would lead to the most death, and would involve the lowest numbers of troops. The middle option, I think more likely, although who knows for sure?

Idk why you were downvoted for this post so I upvoted you

OBVIOUSLY it's because I want to initiate a mandatory draft to take Antarctica and the Moon....

War with China would likely necessitate a draft due to its probable severity. In less than a week we would have casualties exceed that of the Vietnam war due to China's anti-ship ballistic missile tactics. Our Navy would certainly suffer high loss of life, even though we would still hold a strong advantage.

Total manpower involved would be similar to that of WWII. While we do have a large standing military and reserves, I see it unlikely being sufficient to combat China with a high probability of success. Now, a draft is far from certain, depending on how the cards fall. It could be that between us and India, we'd win that war far sooner and with less overall casualties that if we didn't have that key support.

There are several situations where if we went to war, a draft would be likely. War with China, being the most likely.

My wife and son are coming back to live with me next month since St. Louis didn't go to complete ****, lol. All in all, I'm enjoying myself although it is a lot of hard work right now.

Hey thanks for the response. I don't really dispute there being a southern strategy during that period. But, I do disagree with a party switch as is generally portrayed. There were a few elements which switched parties during this time, but the amount and significance is generally overstated, in my opinion. Ideologies have shifted over time, with both parties. And, there have been historic events such as the 1964 Civil Rights Act which were the precipice for great change in both parties. So, I really don't have a counterproof so far as the southern strategy being that I think that quite true. For counterproof towards a 'party switch' that's a bit more tricky. If party switch in the sense of actual members switching, I'd say that counterproof is in the minimal representative/senator switches. If it's in the ideology of the parties, its much harder given that the ideologies have shifted over time.

I really wasn't asking those questions to be divisive but to understand where they were coming from.

They did also have a higher voting percentage than Democrats in favor of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, although that doesn't necessarily attest to their current ideologies.

If Liberal means you prefer to relegate power to the individual rather than the state, then neither party is very liberal these days. Yeah, each is in some ways. But, neither are extensively.

And, while I don't necessarily agree with JeSerai.Guy, he was correct in pointing out an appeal to authority fallacy in reference to 'the history books.' I'm sure the history books in China aren't accurate, which isn't inherently unique to them.

As someone who smoked A LOT in highschool I recommend avoiding it. Same with drinking. Now, once in a blue moon won't kill you or likely negatively affect you in any way. But, habits form easy and it seems like your habits are on track for a good outcome. We start really building where we will end up in highschool. In 10 years you likely won't look back and be sad you didn't party all the time, you'll be grateful you put in the work then because you'll start reaping the rewards of that early effort.

Have fun, but not in excess.

Just my $.02

I think to really evaluate this claim we need to evaluate the majority ideologies of both the Republic and Democratic parties from the civil war era and compare them against those of today. I don't really believe as of now their ideologies switched, but the mode of enacting and promoting those policies. But, I'm all for being persuaded otherwise.

I am conservative in many facets so I certainly hope not. Although, like others have mentioned, having one ideological leaning doesn't mean you can't still be a good person and treat others with respect. If you can't try to understand alternative points of views and opinions then you can't hope to change minds, or to possibly find out your mind should change.

I think there danger in assuming people are to a point where instances like Bleeding Kansas are very unlikely. People don't change all that much, regardless of times. Yeah, security can mitigate the animalistic nature of humans but take that security away and you'll see barbarism akin to that from the past.

My drive comes from two simple formulas:

No work = no money = no food
More work = more money = I can buy **** aside from only food.

I'm hungry daily so I'm re-motivated daily.

Okay, for real? Motivation comes from within. But, it comes from a need or a strong want. Find your need/want and you'll find your motivation.
