Generally speaking, parts get smaller or are pretty set in their sizes. A GTX 1080 is the same size as the GTX 780 was 5 years ago. Nowadays, in most cases (pun intended) you can mount your SSD on the back, or just go to M2 drives which attach flat against the board, meaning you don't have to worry about leaving space for hard drive enclosures.

If you want a large case with a lot of room, get a full-tower.
