Get the i3 if you are planning to play games that are older / specifically designed for PC (IE biosock infinite, sniper elite). Get the fx 6300 if you want to play console ports (IE farcry 4, advanced warfare)

Will do. Right now it looks like a spaghetti monster is attacking my case. I actually ran out of zipties when I built this and I haven't played around with the cable management since. May upgrade to a modular PSU soon. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Its actually from an old server computer. Its really reliable and its at 750 watts. I spray painted it because it had a metallic color that stood out way to much in my case. May get a new one but for now it is looking great. Thanks for the suggestion :)

I was running dual xeons and I had some issues (when I tried to run some programs it gave me a processor not supported error). Mabey because I was running windows vista.

Comment reply on GregoriusJ's Completed Build: Balanced Workstation+Gaming Rig

I mean lower than you expected fps on games? I was just wondering because the xeon is more of a server / workstation processes not a gaming processor. +

I just ordered the parts for a very similar build : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/YcrP8d I think it is good; the only thing I can is maybe get that card on eBay? You can get redicoulious prices on r9 280 / 280xs on eBay. Good luck :)

I wouldn't recommend doing anything like video editing on integrated graphics in your build. However I do think he might have wanted a slightly better possessor such as an i3 or a fx-6300.

Degrading the CPU would save him 30$. However for only 30$ more $s think it would be worth to upgrade the CPU to something that will be fast. I hate slow CPUs too. But thanks for your input.

I'm not really looking for gaming I'm looking for web browsing and video watching speed. This is going to be a computer for my grandparents and I am looking for a cpu to last them while and I would like the graphics good enough for watching web videos. Thanks for your suggestion but I don't think my grandparents are going to be doing too much gaming!

But the mobo I'm looking at for the fx-6300 does come with integrated graphics, my mistake for not putting that in the description.

i5 with gigabyte geforce gtx 760 or 770. i7 is overkill 90% of the time and i5 will do just as good of a job as an i7 90% of the time. gigabyte 760 / 770 runs games on ultra 1080p @ 60 fps for a very reasonable price.
