Apple have a bad habit of obsoleting older iPhones by not supporting them with newer iOS versions.

Disagree, in fact, I think Apple is rather good about this. They supported the iPhone 5s until iOS 12, which is insane IMO

Large corporations can acquire/merge with competitors forming monopolies.

There's government policies specifically made to deal with these kinds of corporations. Imperfect competition causes deadweight loss and market inefficiency, simple economics.

Big corporations make it difficult to create a start up with all the resources and experience they own. I'm not sure what you're talking about here.

Are you generalizing ALL markets? Saying that big corporations prevent startups? The whole deregulation thing to reduce monopolies also encourages startups.

Last but not least corporations can "buy" politicians to make laws in their favor.

No comments here lol.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "French (or francophone)"

Yes, I do think that's a reason. In addition to this, I think, like I said, it is the accessible vocabulary. I think that helps the prevention of wanting to translate everything to your main language, as you can already intuitively understand the phrases

Comment reply on Forum Topic "French (or francophone)"

Yes, that was the mindset for me to learn french... Just emigrate to France, to embrace the language. Also, speaking as much french as i can is oe of the strategies that i'm applying here.

Great mindset, wish I had the same drive lol.

In addition to this, I was going to recommend watching or reading french kid shows. Yes, they're for kids, but they will have vocabulary that is accessible for a beginner, and will help in the transition to interpreting and understanding French fluently.

You're in a perfect scenario in that learning French is going to be much easier due to having been "forced" to speak/listen in French.

Every person learns languages differently IMHO, but techniques to study in french definitely are present, past and future tense, and the common irregular verb conjugations that you will use often in each tense, such as etre or avoir.

What really helped me is just revising vocabulary, but you can also speak to French speakers to improve your french, and honestly, that's going to be the fastest and most effective way to learn it like I said earlier

Honestly, there are many reasons. The most common one (for video games) is that you just lose interest, due to burnout or other things. Honestly, if you just use a platform for one or two games (Battlenet etc.) it's super easy just to go like offline for months without even really realizing lol.

True. But if time is the worry than you could just straight up buy a new part.

Fair enough, that's true, but is it really faster to ship a new part in then sending a whole computer into warranty? In both cases, the computer will prob be unusable so idk.

I wasn't really talking about software. I thought you meant that it will out of the box as far as hardware.

I'm kinda talking about both, yeah you might get better price-to-performance ratio on the dell, but that's for windows apps. Also, it's kinda hard to compare price-to-performance since you have more than one variable here that's changing

Only 64gb as of now.

Well most of the parts have multi year warranties, and I don't need to take it to Apple to have fixed if I don't want to. I can do it myself or have a third party do it, but I see your point. And you can buy extended warrantees for most parts.

Yeah, you don't, but time adds up when you have to take out one separate part and get it fixed rather than just dumping the whole system to one company.

And as far as working out of the box, buy from Dell you have that guarantee

No. When you buy from DELL, you don't get macOS, and if the programs you were working on before are macOS exclusive, what do you do then?

In addition to that you're paying for the possible 128GB VRAM from the GPU's which feature passive cooling, which is why Apple are prob pricing it so high.

This thing could cost as much as $35000

Ok, I didn't hear about that TBH, that's quite the number lol.

And even with the base model you are paying $4500-$5000 more than what you would if you built a PC with similar specs

Yeah, that's true, but they're also paying for macOS and all of its exclusive apps, and the guarantee that it will work out of the box + a warranty for one year for the whole thing, Something you can't building your own PC. Ontop of that you're paying for the whole Apple eco-system thing. (i.e little things like airdrop)

Especially when they are spending hundreds of thousands, even millions on new systems.

You kinda underestimate the budget here of people buying it. It isn't startup companies with no money, it's established brands that will be buying it. For them, $6000 is like a drop of water in an ocean.

You said it yourself, this is targeted towards professionals, who will pay a small Apple tax (to them) for the fastest editing possible. The stand, i'll give it to you, is an absolute freakin joke. $1000 LUL
