I also work IT, I'd love to have my own office. At the moment, all 3 of us in the department are crammed into an office meant for 1 person, and there is zero sound isolation from the metal manufacturing on the other side of one of the walls.

It does pay well. I don't think I'll be making a career out of it though. I much prefer working with programming logic than troubleshooting networks, switches, printers, thin clients, PCs, active directory, etc, etc, etc...

Holy cow I loved this movie. So happy I was able to go in spoiler-free.

The end for Cap and Stark was amazing. My theater blew up when Cap picked up Mjolnir, and when Stark said his final line and used the stones... Wow. Speechless.

I'm super happy they kept Captain Marvel's role to a minimum. This was the two cornerstones' movie.

I guess if I had to pick out one complaint, I wish Cap had given the shield to Bucky like in the comics. But it makes sense as he is far younger and has a lot of potential.

I also think Nat deserved a better end than she got.

Overall, I think the movie was extremely good, but more importantly, the most satisfying conclusion to a movie universe I've seen. What makes me sad is that we will never have something this good for Star Wars.

It's pretty solid, but it will take some getting used to for the layout.

I feel that it has elements of the old layout hanging around (still the small text-hyperlinks for Forums, Price Drops, Price Trends, and Blog instead of full buttons like the buttons having to do with builds).

We can talk about plans to see the movie, whether we (or others) were spoiled yet, etc. There's still discussion to be had.

And for those who've seen the movie they can tell us if it's good or not (which from the spoiler-free reviews I've heard from some of my friends, it's really good).

One of my roommates accidentally got spoiled in a YouTube comments section. I asked him if what happens is anything like what people have been theorizing on the internet, and he said no, that it will be totally unexpected.

Sounds like I'm in for a ride. And my roommate is awesome for not spoiling our friend group. :D

Thanks. I think it might have come across as a little condescending with that last phrase. Either that or people just want to be justified in flexing their elitist status over everyone else that has a different worldview. This is PCPartPicker, not /r/atheism or /r/christianity.

Wish we'd take the stance that /r/dankchristianmemes has.

I linked an image in the last bullet point that would very easily help you figure out how you grip your mouse.

Maybe try a G305 or G Pro Hero. I'd recommend Logitech over most other brands for mice.

This is the most generic mouse request post I've seen in a long while. Pretty much all "gaming" mice made in the last 5 years fit these requirements.

In order to help you better with your choice:

  • What mouse did you use previously? Did you adjust the weights on it? Did you enjoy using that mouse or do you want to try something completely different?

  • What games do you like to play with your mouse, if any?

  • What are your hand measurements?

  • What grip style do you use (Palm, Claw, Fingertip)?

They're about $10 apart right now, and the motherboards OP selected are also about $10 apart.

$20 more for what could be a 10-15% gap in gaming performance is pretty good.

If OP was doing anything else in addition to gaming, I'd recommend Ryzen though just because it's a much better all-rounder CPU.

Not sure why you're judging the difference between the two as longevity. Having an ultrawide is a completely different experience than having a 16:9 monitor.

It seems like you care a lot more about refresh rates rather than the aspect ratio. So I'd focus on that first.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "What Happens If the Power Goes Out While Updating?"

It depends on what portion of the installation process it is in, and how integral the update is for Windows.

At best the system would roll back any changes to the previous version on the next reboot via startup repair, at worst you could end up with a completely borked install that won't boot up again without a repair disk or possibly even a reinstall.

i5-4th gen will get drastically worse battery life and won't have any performance advantage over a newer laptop with an i3-8th gen. Also, terrible screen and Lenovo price hike.

These are terrible suggestions, all of them have Celerons/old AMD CPUs, most have eMMC storage.

And none of them have FHD screens which is what I'd say is the minimum resolution of a good laptop screen in 2019.

When do you need the laptop? Is your budget a hard $300, or could you save up more/budget more towards it?

Here's your best option at the moment, still is $30 above your budget but well worth it. If you can, I'd save more and either get the one with the SSD or the one with the quad core processor, 8gb of RAM, MX150, and SSD.

Yeah Android phones definitely have their place. There's some fantastic options nowadays.

It's kind of funny, because in my house I was the one always encouraging the family to go with Android, and even convinced my mom, a longtime iPhone user, to switch. Lol

I'm T1 diabetic, and my S8 was disconnecting from my bluetooth CGM (constant glucose monitor) pretty frequently. As this could happen for several hours during the night and I wouldn't know about it until morning, it became a major health issue. I get zero disconnects now, though looking back it might have been some other application interfering with it rather than the operating system or RAM management kicking the application out of memory.

I was also just having problems with reliability on my previous Android phones in general. Figured I'd take the jump and if I hated it, switch back. Ended up liking it a lot.

Seconded, the S8 was a fantastic phone for me. If I didn't need to switch to iPhone for reliability reasons I would have definitely kept it for another year or two.

I wouldn't get a desktop if I wanted an office PC. I'd just get a laptop. Much more flexibility in the environment and more or less the same performance.

You and your partner have to decide on three items to take with you. For food and water, the amount needed counts as one item.(so, food and water would be 2 items).

how would you survive the month(30 days)?

So basically what you're saying is you can only take one thing with you into the room, because it's literally impossible to survive without water for 30 days, and extremely difficult to survive without food for 30 days.

I'd probably choose a pillow, because you're making it very difficult to bring in anything that I could occupy my time with (very little light for reading/writing, no electricity, etc).

Depending on what size you're looking for, the Dell S2715H or P2319H. Both have fantastic color accuracy and brightness. Dell monitors are also known to have some of the best stands, which I can attest to.

1080p is probably the best resolution for you at the moment. You probably don't want to lower your game settings to play at 1440p, and you also probably don't want to stream 1440p video or deal with scaling. 1080p is still good enough for today.

Not a lot has changed. Unlike ARM SoCs, which have made progress in leaps and bounds recently, the x86 side has stagnated and any processor from 2017 will perform similarly to a processor priced about the same in 2019.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Star Wars Trailer"

I find it hilarious that they have to bring in older characters in order to get the fanbase interested in the series again. If Palpatine and Lando weren't in IX, would any of us really be interested in the film for the bland new characters? Honestly, the amount of character development that has gone into Rey, Finn, and Poe is enough to fit on my fingernail. Compare that to the Original Trilogy or even the Prequel Trilogy and it just becomes laughable.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that Star Wars is no longer about the story, just whatever agenda or propaganda the screenwriter/director wants to throw at us at the moment. And Disney lets them get away with it because they know Star Wars can't fail, and let's be real, we'll see the movie anyway even if we think it'll be garbage.

As far as comparing laptops you can transfer most of your knowledge from desktops to laptops.

No, basically the only knowledge you can transfer over is specifications, which really only matters if you're playing games or doing intensive tasks. Most laptop users aren't doing those things.

Everything else is completely new. You learn about build quality (hinge strength, touchpad usability, chassis strength, materials used), I/O ports that matter to you, screen brightness, resolution, and response time; webcam placement and resolution; battery life, throttling; each company's quality control and warranty support, etc, etc, etc.

If you want to find the best laptop for you, you'll have to research each of these and balance what matters to you with what things you can live without.
