It should be fine, you're only using 2 2tb HDD and 1 SSD, so yeah.

No no, I looked into that, there are 6 SATA 6Gb/s ports on it, so I'm pretty sure you shouldn't have a problem with two of them being disabled.

Here's what I'm working on for them. A 1070 for pretty much just gaming? He said he's going to be playing Witcher 3 and Wildlands. Though yours will work and work pretty well.

Alright. And ram/memory, and how big does he want the SSD storage wise?

Any color theme? Also... PCI-E SSD? Those are extremely expensive. What about just an M.2 SSD? And how much ram? I assume 32 gb, but is 16 ok?

Comment reply on Forum Topic "SSD/HDD or both?"

  • 1 point

SSD is much better, but I would get maybe both. SSD is storage, but more expensive because it's much faster than a mechanical drive (or a HDD).

Alright. But the point of the post was to find something that has the good stuff the R5 has, but also doesn't look like a rectangular box with a window. :P Basically something that would look nicer on my desk, preferably black/white, black, or black/red. My color scheme is white/black/red.

Got a few tips. First, the cooler is way underpowered for that i7-7700k, meaning you're going to have to get a better one very quick. I'd recommend something like the scythe mugen 5, or NZXT Kraken x62 if you like watercooling. You're CPU will get way too hot. Second, the memory is DDR4-2400, but I would get DDR4-3000 or 3200. The forums here are very useful. They'll give you better advice than me, but those are just some things I would do. Edit: Oh! Also, that graphics card and CPU (i7-7700k), they're very powerful and I would get a 1440p or 4k monitor instead of a simple 1080p monitor. Dude, you should've done lots of searching online before just getting the most expensive parts.

Great build! Though.. wouldn't recommend to put the headphones on the monitor, try a stand like these (for under your desk https://www.amazon.com/Anchor-ORIGINAL-Under-Desk-Headphone-Stand/dp/B00P31BMHG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1493263408&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=headphones+stand&psc=1, and for above your desk either this one https://www.amazon.com/Headphone-New-Bee-Supporting-Headphones/dp/B01GJQ7N94/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1493263408&sr=8-3&keywords=headphones+stand or maybe this one https://www.amazon.com/AmoVee-Acrylic-Headphone-Stand-Black/dp/B00SGW9QLS/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1493263408&sr=8-4&keywords=headphones+stand) I have the last one myself, works good but it's not very sturdy, slides around my glass desk quite easily. Though you have wood so it might work a bit better ;P

Ok... pretty much confirmed after a bunch more reddit searching that the corsair AM4 bracket would work with the NZXT Kraken x62... still debating if I want to use that one instead though. It does look much nicer and, aswell as you telling me, I've heard that water cooling is more powerful.

Do you know if the corsair AM4 bracket would work for the NZXT Kraken x62? I'm still considering it... sorta. Most of the bad reviews are either for the AM4 bracket not coming in or complaining about the Cam software.
