So, I am wanting to get into capturing gameplay footage and making edits of the footage. I am just wanting simple, 1080p60 captures and probably only 30-45 second clips for the most part.

I haven't done this since getting into PC gaming so I am wondering: capture card or screen recording software? What is best and why? My PC is running a 2700X, 16GB of RAM and a 2070 so it should be able to handle everything.

Also looking for suggestions on editing software but not something that will break the bank. I know most that most 'free' software is free for a reason but this is also just a hobby so spending $200+ on a software license is a bit out of the question.

Thanks!
