Friend Wants to Convert to the PCMasterRace

GRANDSPORTER

So my friend really wants to purchase parts for a gaming PC build he wants to do over the summer. He is deciding to ditch his Xbox and switch to PC gaming. I've helped him out with the list and I just want some professional opinions on what needs to be improved. Thank you for your time and help!

Parts List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/RVx3xG

Games he wants to play: Apex Legends, Fortnite, CSGO, GTA V, and other AAA games in the future

Budget: No more than $1,300

Things that he wants: NZXT Kraken X62, white and black color scheme, and RGB where possible

P.S: All parts need to be purchased from Micro Center so if possible list parts that can be found at Micro Center

Once again, thank you for your time and professional opinion!

Looks pretty good. Here are some suggestions

  • First off, I do agree with Dreadvolt's suggestion of getting a better GPU.

  • With the R5 2600X, an AIO really isn't needed. You're more than welcome to get one but for $150, it's hard to say that you'll really benefit from it unless extreme overclocking which isn't really possible on the 2600X. I would personally spend that $150 on going for a 2070. That would have way more value for gaming.

  • If you want to save a few bucks, the benefits of the H500i over the regular H500 is simply the built in NZXT Hue controller and I think a built in RGB strip (could be wrong). If you don't have plans for a crazy amount of RGB, the H500 will do fine. You could also add the controller later on.

  • You may consider a 650W PSU for future upgrades or if you go for a 2070.

  • Lastly, only get the 2060 if you have interest in the tensor cores. The 1660ti has very similar performance but without tensor cores.

100%.

I've got the h500i. I think you'd have a tough time finding dual LED strips and a controller for less than the difference in price between the h500, and the h500i. You do have to use NZXT's CAM software (which isn't amazing, but has been getting better IMO) to control the RGB. Since the original request stipulated a Kraken (which you also need CAM for), I assumed RGB was a thing your friend wanted. Obviously, if $30 is more valuable than RGB, go with the h500.

One thing to expand upon this.

For arguably better RGB, and less apps needed to control it all, it might be worthwhile going with the h500 non-i, and skipping the Kraken for an h115i platinum by Corsair. In my experience Corsair's RGB implementation has been the best.

Slightly cheaper cooler with more/better/sync'd RGB with the memory, and if you drop down the the h500, no need for CAM software at all, for an overall savings of about $35, and still lots of RGB and cooling performance.

EDIT: Obviously this was for OP, more so than, you PP, I replied in the wrong spot.

I ended up changing the CPU and graphics card and removed the Kraken. This is what I came up with: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/

your link points back to my own current build. You need to use the 'Permalink' URL.

Should look something like: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vzDLZR

Might as well get a white, properly binned GPU. =)

Honestly though, the build looks fine. Your friend should be happy.
