I would like to keep all of my games on an external hard drive using the USB 3.1 Gen 2 SuperSpeed+ connection on my motherboard. I am having no luck finding anything of sufficient size (8TB or larger) that uses that protocol. USB 3.1 Gen 1 no problem, USB 3.1 Gen 2, can't find anything. Any help, leads appreciated. Thanks!

P.s. My board (ASUS X99-PRO/USB 3.1 LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 ATX Intel Motherboard) does support Thunderbolt, should I add an expansion card and just use that?)

You might as well stick with Gen 1, because it's still faster than the hard drive can transfer. USB 3.1 Gen 1 works out to pretty close to SATA 3 speeds, and while you might be able to max it out with an SSD, there's no way a hard drive will go that fast.

Excellent. Thank you! Lots of choices for USB 3.1 Gen1
