Do I need a sound card if I have an external audio interface?

I'm trying to do my very first build, with the goal of mainly doing music production/recording/etc. and this may be a dumb question. But I'm trying to figure out if I need a sound card, since I already have an external audio interface that I use for recording on my laptop (currently a Yamaha Audiogram, but I'm thinking of getting a Focusrite Scarlet 2i2). I think I've read that the interface basically acts as a replacement for the sound card, but I'm not sure if that means it does EVERYTHING a sound card does-- for example would I be able to use a MIDI editor like GuitarPro with it?

Edit: Just in case this ends up being helpful to anyone else: the answer appears to be yes. The recording interface + speakers can in fact act as the "sound card" for a computer, you just need to go into the audio settings from the control panel and set it.
