Beginner's Idiot Build (opinions wanted)

So as the name would imply, this is baby's first build, and I'm hardly as knowledgeable as I'd like to be. I'd love to have a solid gaming rig, since my laptop chugs even when running oldschool games. I've got little interest in overclocking or anything advanced like that at this juncture in time, I'd just be happy to have a box that does the job. I think that this is a good build, and it's within my budget, but I'd love to get a second opinion from someone who actually has a clue:

It's worth mentioning that I've already got a mouse and monitor that will work nicely, and I've heard that I can get Windows 10 for free with my current PC's serial codes.

Other than that, is there anything that I'm missing, or is this a functional build? I'm fine adjusting parts if I've cheaped out on something vital. If everything's above board though, is there anything I can cut costs on without any major changes in performance? In my inexperience, I feel like I may have overdone the CPU or the power supply, but I honestly don't have a clue.

Thank you so much in advance! :)

Get an i5 or ryzen 5, also get a amd card like a 570 they perform much better and they are cheaper. You would get better performance for a cheaper price.

  • The SSD inclusion is a MUST!!

  • RX 580's (GPU) performance is at par with the GTX 1060

  • 2600 AMD Ryzen processor adds 2 additional cores (6 in total). A handful of games are already utilising 6 cores and more to come.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the mobo and case are based on the Micro form factor (smaller tower)

Thank you so much for the input! I've never used an SSD in the past though, is there a lot of setup involved?

Same routine as plugging in a HD. Simply connect the sata cable + power cable as you would with a HD. Just remember to connect the SSD first and install your OS. Then connect the HD. Install all apps on SSD and everything else on HD (games, media, files, etc). The SSD will give the system a huge boost in Windows boot/shut down speeds and faster app load ups. Instant transfer speeds too or much faster with larger files. Everything will just feel more snappier.

Following on these suggestions, it's also dropped my total by about $20 or $30 CAD, which is always a plus too!
