Forum rules apply to Off-Topic too

philip

Hi Everyone,

Lately Off-Topic has seen a considerable bump in usage. That's great! However, I'd like to remind our off-topic submitters that the standard rules still apply. Please don't spam off-topic, or your topics will get removed.

If you're posting in off-topic, keep in mind it needs to be something of substance and purpose. (If you're a poster who likes to post general stream of consciousness topics like, oh, I don't know... "I like the color red!" or similar, please exercise a bit of restraint and not post that.)

Get a feeling a section like that may get a little out of hand and end up a little too close to 4chan/b.......

Or it could be totally fine and I am just leaping to conclusions out of paranoia :D

Ooo... And you stickied this. Or is it "sticky'd"? stickyed? ... Whatever it is.

Apparently as a response to this.

Probably a good move.

I saw a couple of people complaining but none of them wanted to create a suggestion thread to ask the staff, so I made it :).

Change doesn't come without action.

sorry if I am found guilty

Hopefully i am not guilty, i did not see my topic count drop, so hopefully i am good. I always try to do topics with substance of some sort that are engaging to the users for the most part. Well other than Flip a coin But it had 79 responses to at least it was engaging. But i will watch it in the future.

Good thing I hardly ever make topics lol.

I don't think I made any topics purely about potatoes... I do remember doing the k thing once. Hmm

(If you're a poster who likes to post general stream of consciousness topics like, oh, I don't know... "I like the color red!" or similar, please exercise a bit of restraint and not post that.)

So no "potatoes" and "k" spam, got it. And no NSFW, and no piracy, link shorteners, or offensive content.

But that doesn't include the pure off-topic stuff like questionnaires, right?

  • 1 point

Questionnaires are totally fine, so long as they're serving a purpose. Something like, "I like blue, what is your favorite color?" is technically asking a question, but it's lacking substance or a meaningful purpose. In a nutshell, it's the topic posts that don't really have substance or purpose that we want to cut down on.

Ahh I see. Well, good luck hunting those topics down! I'll try to report the ones that are blatantly obvious. (Don't want to report every topic I see under suspicion and involuntarily abuse the report system.)
