AMD Crimson ruining GPU's?

Don't know if anyone else heard this, but apparently installing the new Crimson drivers cause the GPU fans to lock and burn out your GPU.

I heard manually setting a fan curve in MSi Afterburner stops this from happening.

i call bull on some of these stories. you card will protect itself from thermal damage. i did not have any problem with my fan speed once updated.

I did seem pretty weird at first and then AMD tweeted something about it.

yes thats about using overdrive it defaults to 20%. that doesn't remove the thermal protection. it will still downclock until stable temps. solutions are:

1 - don't use overdrive to overclock your gpu.

2 - if you do use overdrive, set your fan speed and monitor temps while gaming.

Well that sucks. Glad to say my 390x is still fine. I always monitor my temps anyways, So luckily I'd be able to catch it if it did happen.

I helped someone by changing drivers without knowing of the issue yesterday. The card was a 380 and thankfully it only crashed a couple a of time without damage.

Maybe it only happened to certain people.
