I am wondering if a 750W PSU is enough for a r9 390 and fx 8350 paired together with a fan controller connected to it with 6 fans connected to the fan controller
At stock clocks it will be fine, but be careful overclocking. You could find the limit of the PSU depending on quality.
A high leakage FX-8350 can run 250-300W (torture/stability testing) just to get a stable 4.7ghz. That's JUST the chip, doesn't include VRM conversion loss's. (add another ~40W!). An overclocked FX-8350 build can pull near 400W from the PSU with the GPU sitting at idle. The R9 390, depending on the version you have, can operate ~280-330W maximum. You can see how such a build could eat an entire 750W PSU pretty easily.
And to think my 5820K with a GTX 960 is setting hear purring along at under 150 Watts even with 30 Watts of that coming from the Monitor..
Might Overclock when winter comes and I need a bit more heat in the house Grin
Thanks for your input !!
Fire up P95 + Furmark. Should get at least ~300+W from the wall.
Just ran phoronix-test-suite run gputest and did Furmark..
Amazing how you hit the Power Draw exactly. It hovered between 290 and 305..
I dont plan on overclocking whatsoever.
Plenty of power. You could even go with a 650w. What is your power supply?
EVGA 750B2 its a tier 2 psu
great PSU!! you should be more than fine.. :)
