Description

Since about August of this year I have been saving up for this build, aswell as purchasing parts little by little. Basically all i was wanting was a system that could run games or most at High FPS, and Settings at 1080p or 1440p. I will say after playing different games such as Fortnite, Witcher, Quake, Deceit, and Planet Coaster it goes above and beyond of what i want. This was also my first build, but overall coming from a Crappy Laptop or even from my Xbox One X it feels completely different. I also plan to Upgrade this Aesthetically such as the Fans, Cables, and add RGB Strips in the next month or two. ill go into some pros and cons of this build below

Notes

  • Graphics Card runs practically silent, the loudest i heard it get was Witcher but other than that the other games i played ran amazing, and the graphics card remained silent. I do also think this card has the best value for 500$, it provides a little over GTX 1080 Performance for Cheaper.

  • I dont even have a SSD in my Computer and it boots Extremely fast. i was really suprised by how fast this PC boots. It may just be me honestly lmao but not even just booting but the loading speed for Games is extremely fast. But compared to any other Computer or laptop ive ever used this is extremely fast.

  • The i5 8600k to me is perfect, I dont really need the extra processing power for Streaming, or Video Editing etc, i would say the most editing i ever do is Photoshop as i do some Graphic Design, but this CPU is really good. I have experienced 0 Bottle Necking in games, but i do believe id be able to juice out some more performance out of my GFX Card if i got a I7 8700k, i just felt like i didnt absolutely need one for the things i am going to be doing.

  • The NZXT Kraken Water Cooler i have heard all over the place that people have had constant pump failures, and Cam Software is Garbage. Im my Opinion i have not had any issues with Cam software. I think it is very user friendly and i havent had any bugs, crashes, or anything bad happen. This AIO has kept my CPU very cool as low as 24 Degrees at some points but when im playing games its around the mid 30's. With the Pump Failure thing i cant really say 100% on that because i just got the cooler and i havent experienced any issues.

  • The only real issue i have had so far but i have fixed it was my Fan Speeds. My Motherboard for some reason immediately wanted to have my fan speeds to the highest they could be causing them to be really loud. Im referring to the case fans and the AIO Fans, even though it was mainly the AIO fans that were the issue. The NZXT S340 Elite Stock Case fans are pretty silent even at a high RPM.

Overall i believe i did pretty good for my First Build, i didnt have really any help except for watching some Youtube videos and pretty much knowing how to build a PC. Ill probably update once i get my PC looking much better than it is now with RGB Strips, Cables, New Fans etc. Feel free to leave a comment below and ask me any questions ! :)

Amazing job man! Wish my first pc was this epic.

Edit: Just wanted to add that I was never ballsy enough to use water cooling on my first build. Really nice job my dude! +1

Its actually pretty good, especially for the money. I payed 550$ for mine, but it gets a little over GTX 1080 Performance. What were you planning on running ?, ive ran most games at ultra and it does it fine. games that require a lot of GPU power or even CPU may run a tad bit less than 60.

Like destiny 2 and fortnite, and those type of games

I main Fortnite and i get about 140 FPS on mostly Epic Settings. I disable some things such as Post Processing but even some times i get up in the 200's. Destiny im pretty sure this GFX Card could run very well. Add me on Steam if you want my name is notrobbie on there

Great build and if you don't mind me asking, how is the 2070? im thinking of stepping up from my 1070 with my upgrade to ryzen 2ed gen and giving my 1070 to my brother.

Really Good, very Similar to 1080 Performance but a bit better. You'l probably be getting around a 30-40 frame jump in most games from a 1070 if you upgrade but some it'l do better than that. If you do i totally recommend the Model of the EVGA RTX 2070 that i got for 550$ , but if you dont care about being able to change the Color of the Logo on the Graphics card, aswell as a full back plate you can get a cheaper version for 500$. All in all i think the RTX 2070 is a great purchase (Mainly only this one though)

Ok, thanks for the info, ill look into the EVGA cards but personally I am a Gigabyte fan, but $500 is a good price

I usually try to stick around Asus but a lot of their stuff is really overpriced IMO specifically their Graphics Cards. Motherboards i always go for Asus, but something like a Graphics Card i try for Asus or EVGA. Aorus has a RTX 2070 that i saw for 600$. I think it honestly looks better than the EVGA one i have with the RGB but i dont usually stick with Gigabyte Aorus because ive heard bad things regarding the reliability of their products.

Ive just always had good experience with gigabyte, I love ASUS for the looks but like you said, there stuff is just to overpriced

Yeah, its all really just Personal Preference when going with a maker for your GPU, Motherboard, Case or anything like that. But if you want my Steam is notrobbie and discord notrobbie#2212 feel free to add me if you'd like

Love the build man! Really hate it when people think a build is trash when it doesn't have an SSD but like you said... boot times are fine even with a hard drive.

Solid build! This actually got me kinda excited because it's pretty similar to my 1st build that i'm still currently buying for, I just decided to put a tad more money into mine but otherwise it's dang close.

So similar to my list for first PC Build! Still on the fence on which Graphics card to get. I'm also thinking Alienware 34" 3440x1440 G-Sync IPS Monitor.

I have the 8600k, it easily overclocked to 5.0ghz for me, depends on the chip lottery, but 4.8 is guaranteed, I also water cool it and it is great, I am about to upgrade my gpu to an evga rtx 2070 black.

Nice, the Black One i didnt go with cause it didnt have a Back Plate and RGB was gone so is spent about 50$ more and got the one i got. I couldve spent anothyer 50$ on top of that and gotten the 600$ XC Ultra but the Heat Sync In my opinion is just too big.

Hey man this is an awesome build! I'm pretty close to starting my first pc build as well and I have parts that are similar to yours. I wanted to go a full Asus ROG build but Gigabyte seems to be more affordable to me. I'm pretty sad but Gigabyte still seems promising. I wanted to see how well the RTX 2070 performs with the i5 8600k on games such as Fortnite, CS:GO, GTA V, etc. I'm in Canada but if you go to my build you'll probably see it in whatever region you are. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/YW9T3b

Im pretty sure a Gigabyte Graphics Card would be good, but for your Motherboard i would definetly try to go with Asus. It will definetly last you longer in the long run but if Gigabyte is more affordable for you id go with that. Other than that your build seems pretty solid also i just got the Razer Blackwidow Chroma V2 off of Bestbuy for 85$ on a online black friday sale i think they do still have it at that price but its a little under 100$ off i think.

Great Build man love the components and the design of the rig. by any chance, can i see the benchmarks for that rig for 1080p, 1440p gaming with triple a titles?

  • 1 point

I dont have a Benchmarking program ATM, but there are Youtube Videos of a i5 8600k and a RTX 2070 being put together and tested in serveral games. The Graphics card's performance is more like a GTX 1080 if that puts anything into perspective.

Hey! Getting almost same build as yours soon, but without water cooling and going for an RTX 2070 XC Ultra. But I don't really know which monitor should I get (my first PC build). Wondering if I should go fr 1080 or 1440p? Would this build handle playing in 1440p with around 80 fps? Thanks in advance! Love your build ;)

  • 1 point

i currently have a 1080p monitor and i get amazing frames. This card is more than capable of handeling 1440p at around 80 fps. Probably could get even more depending on what you are playing

  • 1 point

My build is reallly similar to yours I also have an 8600k and the same 2070 inside the elite as well. However I have the kraken x52. Just wondering what are your gpu temperatures under load? Somehow my gpu reaches almost 80c under load.

Usually in the high 30's, depending on what im running. I dont usually run very intensive games but the highest ive seen it go is like 48.
