Description

I built this pc for the long haul. Been told its over kill, but then again, I already knew it would be. But I wanted a nice overkill system for cheaper than overkill prebuilts.... and better.

Enjoy

The ram price hurts me deeply

128GB of RAM really is overkill, even for 4K video editing and Blender/Maya.

Where it isn't though is running 8+ VMs at the same time. You should learn virtualization if you haven't already.

Also, cable management.

RAM: I don't know why I need it, but its there for me if I ever do, just like my 10TB hard drive... Virtualization Check. Cable Management: Yea I could have tried harder... I bought the zip ties, and I still haven't used even one. It's probably because I guess somewhere in the back of my mind I know that the MSI Raider motherboard kind of has gotta go. Probably will try and switch it out at some point with an aorus or maybe an asus prime. Still thinking about all that.

Proper overkill means a Rampage VI Apex. It only has 4 DIMM slots with less RAM traces on the mobo so you can OC your memory higher.

what don't you like about the mobo you have now?

Not sure yet... It wasn't the most expensive one out there, so I'm kind of wondering what I missed. Maybe I'm just missing out on rgb lighting on the main board? Not sure... I just read it was an entry level board, and since I am many years out of being a hardware guy, I figured I made a mistake in some way. Haven't had time to look into it.

If this is supposed to be overkill downgrade the CPU and make the Video Card overkill, like a NVidia Titan X or Z or something instead of a 1080 at least 2 1080tis come on, it’s 2017.
