Description

After lightning damaged my old computer I built this as a replacement. I had to use an old PSU as the one I chose was too big for the case. I also picked up a quality UPS to protect from future electrical issues. Later switched out for a smaller and more reliable PSU.

When life gives you lemons, make blue lemonaid.

Noo, that isn't what you should do. When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons, what the hell am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man who’s gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I’m gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!

Good ol' Cave Johnson

All these spheres are made of asbestos, by the way. Keeps out the rats. Let us know if you feel a shortness of breath, a persistent dry cough, or your heart stopping. Because that's not part of the test. That's asbestos. Good news is, the lab boys say the symptoms of asbestos poisoning show a median latency of forty-four point six years, so if you're thirty or older, you're laughing. Worst case scenario, you miss out on a few rounds of canasta, plus you forwarded the cause of science by three centuries. I punch those numbers into a calculator, it makes a happy face.

The vapor-X, while would fit the theme perfectly, is just a little to big for this case, by 5mm.

This Build seems to be more concentrated on looks than power if I see right? Instead of going for the i5-4690, u could have gone for an i5-4690k which opens up overclock possibility for the same price. And I wouldve maybe picked a z-97 or 87 mobo in combination. Thats just for more power without losing the ability to keep up your color theme. Also choosing the Vapor-X Version of the 290 or maybe 290X, if you'd have some more budget. And here again I would've gone for a GTX 780 iChill Herculez for a little more, you would save alot of power for this overclocked GTX 780 which would surely give you a great gpu power boost and would fit your color theme.

I tried to balance budget and power with this build. As most of the parts would be hidden behind the case I did not bother to theme it. The choice of a non k card and 16gb of memory was to get the vt-d extensions for running VM's. As for

Actually, ark.intel.com lists both devil canyon (i5-4690K and i7-4790K) CPUs as having the vt-d instruction.

I love this build, but the Sapphire Vapor-X would've matched so well compared to the MSI Twin Frozr. Anyways, still gets my +1

How's the r9 290 working for you? I've been considering this and the MSI GTX 770, and I can't seem to decide. I prefer NVIDIA,since I've had so many problems with AMD,but I want 4 gb of Vram, just for the heck of it and I might be playing Vram hungry Fallout mods ;3

I actually heavily considered both those cards in my build as well. I went with the same exact card as he did. I LOVE my R9 290 It kicks *** as a GPU :)

I kinda just want to go with the GTX since it has PhysX, and I've had some serious problems with AMD cards, but Im still not 100% sure

Like I said no issues thus far. Honestly I have never been a fan of AMD up until now I always preferred NVidia but I'm enjoying the switch

That's good to hear. The problems I ran into was that my AMD Graphics Card burned out after about 2 months of medium use. I also had a AMD processor fail on me with my previous computer. Im currently on a Core 2 duo E9400, Nvidia GT 320 1GB, 8gb of DDR2 RAM, and a 300w PSU, so this will be a great upgrade :D

What psu do you use? I'm using the same gpu and cpu as you but its either my 550w psu thats failing me or the gpu is just dead.

I was using an old psu but recently replaced with a Silverstone Tek Strider 550w 80+ Gold. The small case makes finding a compatible psu difficult.

Paint the red details in the R9 290 and it will be perfect ;)
