Part Reviews

CPU

High performance works well, I considered using the FX-8350, but this has more power, but it is $50 more.

I'd like so more comments about FX-8350 vs Intel i5 4690k :)

CPU Cooler

I love this cooler! I originally was going to get the classic 212 Hyper EVO but a good fellow on the forums suggested this instead, I'm so glad I went with it! Looks extremely futuristic and works well. It's HUGE compared to a stock cooler though, I'm not sure how big it is compared to the 212 Hyper EVO, never had one.

Motherboard

Originally was going to get a Gaming 6 but my dad didn't mind paying an extra $50 for the extra featuresr this Mobo came with compared with the 6. Personally, it didn't matter too much to me. I'm really satisfied with it.

Memory

It's RAM, looks really sleek, but you can't really see it that well in the case where I got it positioned. But it's defintely doing its job :)

Storage

WOW! This is my first time ever getting an SSD and I'm already addicted, every PC or Laptop I get in the future I am making sure I got an SSD as my boot drive, what a difference! My 6 year old desktop had a boot time of 5-10 minutes. Now it's 5-10 seconds LOL

Storage

First one came in DOA. I got a replacement in 4 days. Huge amounts of storage for super cheap, and super fast too! What could I possibly say that's bad about this?

Video Card

This Newegg review literally took the words out of my mouth.

Pros: Overall better card than the GTX 970 at same price. Very good cooling, only 10*C difference between Idle and heavy load. Quiet. Great for higher resolutions

Cons: Massive power drain (it's an amd) 850W should be plenty to counteract that though!

Notes: Fairly high idle temp at 60*C because by default it doesn't run the fans while idling. Changable with MSI Afterburner though :)

Case

Sleek, easy to handle with, higly customizable, can see all parts through the window. Although it's HUGE it barely fit where my old desktop fitted.

Power Supply

Top tier for a reason, it works really well and so easy to manage with. I had a nonmodular one for my old desktop, annyoing to deal with. Not only it's easier it looks better too.

Optical Drive

First one came in DOA. I got a replacement in 4 days as well. It's an optical drive, it works at least the 2nd one haha.

Operating System

Not going to Windows 8 or 10 unless absolutely necessary Windows 7 is just a masterpiece has so many features and feels so sleek unlike 8/10. Windows 10 might be a lot better experience than 8, but I still don't have any desire to try. Unless alot of comments say it's REALLY good.

Wireless Network Adapter

Wow! It works well! Across the entire house I'm getting 9 GBs/s so about up to 72 megabits whilst my internet connection is 105mb download/20mb upload. I also have a really good router. Though I could spent a whole day wiring it through the walls across the whole house I'll sacrifice ~25 megabits of speed.

Keyboard

Took a while to get used to at first, but worth it! I love the backlit lights! Never had one for a desktop, it's a feature I always wished I could take from my laptop to my desktop. How can you not like a mechanical keyboard that has lights? :)

Mouse

Wow! This thing is so comfortable and customizable, has weights but I didn't put any in cause I like my mouse light.

Headphones

Wish the max volume on them was a little higher, usually not needed but there are some really soft video on the interwebs and you really need to crank up the volume somtimes, but amazingly comforatable for only $50 I personally think this is a steal since it's usally $80.

Thanks! I can take more pics, but what do you want more pics of, just lmk :) I love the CPU cooler, not only runs the CPU really cool, it looks cool itself :P The GPU looks AWESOME I'm satifised with it, I did some very intensive test it didn't go above 72 dgrees celcius. It runs about 60 degrees when idle though.

hmm.. that idle temp is pretty high. shouldn't be that high.

Yeah the fans stop working around there, if I use MSI afterburner to keep the fans working how far should it go.

oh I see, this card does that hip new zero rpm thing. in that case, it'll run real high idle temps until it reaches 60c and the fan will turn on, just like the non reference 970/980's. if you want lower idle temps use MSI AB to set a custom fan curve. keep the fan at 25-30% under 50c, which should be silent and will keep idle temps in the 30-40c range.

+1 for the part selection, especially the WiFi adapter, peripherals, and RAM.

The power drain is not massive with 390! In fact it's only like 40W more than that of 970's. This is really a huge misconception and needs fixing. You can run 390 totally fine with a 650W power supply, even 550W-600W works but that's cutting it very close.

That is true, but this gives me the ability to Crossfire in the future, right now I have almost enough spare money for a 2nd one, but I'm not going to Crossfire till it's necessary right now I'm playing games like Witcher 3 on Ultra with no problem :)

Nice build. BTW, I'm using Windows 10 on my laptop that I bought in 2009. I love it. The only issues I have is that I can't play a MMO that I played on Win 7, but even then my laptop barely played it, so its not that big of a deal. I plan on getting 10 for my new build because I love how fast it is.

good build but you spent so much money on unnecessary thing if you would have focus more on processor and graphics even more you could have gotten a god pc. ssd not needed since you have the other drive and keyboard case operating system paid to much i could have got almost the same thing for around 150

Yeah eventually... Later the better though, I'm not hasty I remember when I updated to 8.1 on my laptop when it came out, it was a complete disaster. I will wait for the OS to become as stable as possible for updating.

A 390 performs a bit better than the 970 at this point, so its definitely a go. I think that the 390x is about equal to the OG 980

I love the 390 it runs about 72 celcius under full load. This is my first build so I'm not sure if that's horrible but it looks SO good and performs amazingly. It did some tests with it, it does preform above a 970 for sure.

Yep, I used afterburner to check the temps, I noticed you can also use them to make the fan speeds change at certain temperatures, how far should it go before the fans stop working?

Don't plan to yet :) 390 is incredible nothing I can complain about it cept at the the defualt fan setting the fans don't even start running till the GPU is around 60 celcius. EDIT: I will overlock if I need more performance which I do not need atm haha
