Description

this build started out as a apu system and evolved into this. I previously had a r7 260x and things were decent. I figured instead of flat out building a new pc I would just morph this one until all the parts are different (hence the name bleh). I completely understand how much it will bottleneck (why I am upgrading). soon it will have a (insert cpu here), and a msi 970 gaming mobo, 8 more gigs of that sweet sweet ram as well as a nzxt h440... in red

Part Reviews

CPU

Great for entry level pc. not so good for high end gaming. I will say its a good overclocker, I got my chip to 4.4 ghz stable but that may vary from chip to chip. best left to apu builds

Motherboard

decent quality, no bugs. Good mobo for the money, but again for real performance I would upgrade

Memory

a standard with mid level gaming towers, wont disappoint. I had no issues at all with this ram

Storage

has not given me any problems at all. good for the money

Video Card

The 390 in my opinion is the new king of price to performance. you cant argue with numbers... I will say however the card runs hot, is power hungry and drivers are crap... But this is not a problem for me.

Case

very basic case. Great for fist build, but there is no cable management to speak of and only room for 3 fans if you are lucky. But its cheap so what can I say. I'm happy!

Power Supply

coil wind here and there but it was cheap so i'm not complaining

Operating System

its just windows, still not a fan of 8

How is the 390?

I am also curious.

Better than the 970 if you watchh many reviews, chaper and buy a small margin.

But wont you have to compensate for the larger power consumption of the 390 with more expensive power supplies/fans?

Not neccesarily the fans as many non-refernce cards have good cooling while the reference is still adequate, however with power consumption a gtx 970 would need available head room on its own, I usually purchase a power 100 to 200 watts higher than current system wattage to be safe. It could be kind of a trade off but not in terms of cooling, wattage of the 970 is 145watts and the 390 is 275w. If you were more strict on power supply wattage then yes but for me a 390 would be better due to my opinion of not running power supplies near the edge. As you can see if you search an msi 390 non-refernece has 275 watts but a minimum of a 400 watt power supply while a 970 takes 145 watts being reference but requires at least a 500 watt power supply as per recommended on nvidia's website and MSI's website. :) Hope this helps.

Thanks for the clear and concise information, too bad I can't afford either and will be getting an r9 290 instead haha :)

Soo... do you think 650w would be enough? or better go higher

SO DO YOU THINK THIS GUYS BUILD IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE R9390 COULD YOU MAKE A BUILD OF 900 Dollars pls and sorry for caps didnt know they were on and im just trying to get a cheap build

I got the 390 and it really has some pretty good cooling on it. Not the best, ut pretty good. My case came with 3 pre-installed fans, but normally they are only about $7-$14, so add a couple of those and your case becomes cool pretty fast. Heck, I could use my PC as an air conditioner if I take off the optical expansion covers!

Looks great until you buy a new CPU. :D for now a overclock would be good (if your mobo can do that).

However, I recommend buying/waiting for AMD Zen CPUs next year, getting the 4 year old FX 8350 is a waste of money.

ya that would probably be best, thanks :D

also my cpu is overclocked to 4.4 already

  • 1 point

Oh ok. Can you get to 4.6? With a weaker CPU like that, the higher the overclock the way more beneficial it is compared to the i5 and i7 skus.

nah it crashes a metric ****-ton, trust me I have tried ;)

Bummer. It could also be your motherboard, A78 isn't really designed for OCing compared to the enthusiast A88X chipset.

  • 1 point

How was that motherboard for overclocking? Did it let you change the voltages? Do you feel it's the motherboard which is limiting your overclock or other factors are?

Anyway, as others already have pointed out, I'd wait to see skylake / zen and decide what to get accordingly.

  • 1 point

probably other factors. stock it runs 3.7 so a 700 mhz overclock seems decent to me

4.4GHz sound nice indeed, especially with a cheap board. How did you get that speed? Did you have to change the voltage? Sorry to be bothering but I've read people saying that they couldn't bring theyr frequencies up because of locked voltage on similar boards.

Hi i just ordered the same mobo and apu and was wondering if you had to update the bios for the apu to work. Thanks :D

Sweet build. I'm probably going to use the same parts.

Was wondering how this system was working for you as I have the non-K version of this processor. As I was only looking to build a low power system for college with a bit of light gaming here and there. Now that I have some free time coming soon was looking to add a 390 to my build to play some more intensive games.

Nice build! I have the same case, keyboard, and mousepad. As much as I like the Line-M I would've gotten a better case with your budget.

I'm in the process of doing prety much the same thing. Adding an R9 390 on to an OC'd A10 7850K. O.P. Do you think it is bottlenecking the card or not?

my man i was trying to find a cpu cooler that would fit my case with a similiar mobo but can i use it whit corsair vengeance ram no low profile tho my motherboard is msi a88-xm e45 v2

Just to point out the FX8350 is a much slower CPU than the A10

look at the comparison between the 8320 and 860K

http://www.overclock.net/t/1522956/860k-preliminary-results-vs-8320

it showing that the 860K wins even in single threaded applications and whips the 8320 butt in multi-treads

you just need a good air cooler and OC the heck out of the CPU part to 4.3-4.5GHz

  • 2 points

THANK YOU. I Actually have a aftermarket cooler, i was just lazy. The a10 is sitting around 4.4 right now. The thing though is I also stream, and edit so I feel like the extra cores will come in handy

Why not just save up for an i7 4790(k) or a xeon 1231 v3 of you want multi thread help? I know try cost more than an 8350 and a 970 motherboard but those are te best overclockable/non overclockable cpu'so in my opinion for average people doing multitasking on their pc. I know the 8350 is a good cpu it was my first cpu, but if you want more production done just save up better hardware? Though if you're justvtryong to build it now, the 8350 will do nicely.

I think ill wait simply because by the time I have enough money to get Intel, the zen processors might have dropped. We shall see

wait so do you think i could get this build to 980 dollars ??

wait how much would these cost could you give me a build of 980 with the r9390. ??
