Description

This is my fist PC build. I will mainly use it to enjoy X-Plane 11 flight simulator, and maybe some Battlefield 1. I am also very interested in learning the art of fine overclocking. I will probably get a second EVGA 1070 when the prices come down some more. Flight sims can be quite hardware hungry, especially if you install a lot of scenery Add-ons .

I remember my last "gaming" desktop PC I had in the late 90's. I believe it was a 700MHz Pentium III cartridge style CPU with a couple of MB's of ram. The progress in hardware since then amazes me, it's unbelievable.

I hope you all like my little Alpine Joy! I had a lot of fun putting this thing together.

Nice build. Almost what im thinking. Somes questions:

Why ram of 3200 if the cpu only is able to read up to 2400?

How are that fans? Im in doubt between woth or without led in the fan.

  • 0 points

Thanks!

The fans are great so far. They run very quiet with no feelable vibrations.

As I understand this, the i5- 7600k can take 3200mhz, but only if the motherboard/chipset supports it. The ram overclocks the memory controller in the CPU by enabling a XMP profile, or overclocking the ram manually. Intel's specs for the memory controller in the CPU have always been conservative.

I also have X-Plane 11, though it is a little buggy, like in the 737-800 at fl 400 (40,000 ft) you may suffer from Hypoxia even though PAX is on, all the air, and pressurization is active, you could still suffer from Hypoxia. Also in the 747-300 (I believe) there are a couple of switches that will start to go nuts when you flick (switch them on/off), and you will be unable to use it. But overall it's great especially it's still in Beta and it already looks that good. Oh and I don't think the FMC, and or the FMS is working in the Beta yet, which is a little sad to me since I am an actual pilot, and I like the realism even when im not in flight in real life.

But to your very good looking build, the cable management is sublime, and is far beyond what mine looks like.

Defiantly a +1 from me! (Congrats on Featured!)

bling bling ヾ(*ΦωΦ)ノ I heard the hard drive bays for this case are basically only metal, so it can make rattling noises if you put a hard drive in one of them. If you need more space, you can probably just get another 2.5" SATA ssd, or get the expensive m.2/pci-e ssd's. Actually there's also external hard drives, and ssd's as well. Your power supply probably has a lot more wattage than you'll ever need, unless you decide to add another graphics card in SLI or crossfire, which I'd recommend not getting. You can do a basic check with cooler master's power supply check just to be sure. You can replace your graphics card and get another single mid-high end one about every 3-4 years, and clean out the interior every so often with air in a can. If you build another pc, I'd recommend getting an i7 or an amd equivalent for futureproofing purposes, since the next generation(s) of cpu's might not be compatible with the chipset of your current motherboard, but overall I really like your pc. I'm planning on building something similar, but it'll cost more, since I like to have extra bling, lol. I'm stealing your idea for a PSU to GPU custom sleeve extension btw. Based on your photos, it's definitely the most noticeable pin connecting cable after proper cable management.

Does the G.Skill ram come with different color inserts? Or did that set specifically come with white? I'm doing a black & white build this year and would love to get factory colored parts instead of having to do a lot of modding.

It came with a specifically set color. These are being offered in other colors as well. No modding required. There is also a RGB LED version.

Honest question... and it might not even be your need, but can this processor be used for a dedicated streaming/encoding rig? I am absolutely in love with this design. This is what happens when an artist is also tech savvy.

Thanks redta!

I think a i7 would be a better fit if you encode and stream a lot while performing other tasks like gaming. I won't do any streaming or encoding. Just some flightsiming and maybe a game from time to time.

Do you have any motherboards comparable in price and performance to the one in this build? Price data dropped off the face of the Earth about 12 days ago and I can't seem to find the thing anywhere for purchase

Nice build bud. I'm an XP11 pilot as well and wanted to let you know that XP11 does not support SLI anyway so don't bother adding another 1070. Just upgrade to 1080 if need be. I use a 1070 just fine though at 1080p resolution.

How did this work out for X-Plane 11? I want to do a similar build for VR and X-Plane do you think this set up can handle it?

It worked out great. I'm still using it mainly for xplane. I'm running xplane in 4K at a FPS rate in the lower 40's. I over clocked the CPU to 3.8GHz. 16GB ram is plenty. Never tried VR with this rig so I can't comment on how it would run VR. If your budged allows, go with a 8th gen intel CPU and the new gen nvidia graphics cards. Then it will run xplane 11 superbly in VR for sure.

Yo i know its an oldish build but does it still handle well? and where did you get the LEDs

Still going strong. Use it almost everyday for flight simming. The LED's are integrated in the mainboard. The fans came with LEDs as well.

I would like to get my 1st PC, you said you use Xplane with scenery add-ons. Is it at all laggy? and what do you believe the limits are for your Build?
