Yeah, I definitely need to upgrade both the GPU and CPU. Waiting to see what Vega does to GPU pricing.

The R9 390 is pretty comparable to the RX 480, so I wouldn't rush into upgrading that. He's playing at 1080p, so the R9 390 is still a solid option for that.

But the FX series is definitely showing its age. Luckily he has one of the top tier ones, so it'll hold up decently. With that being said that's definitely the next thing I'd upgrade if I were him. It's going to be a bit expensive though, because upgrading CPUs also means getting a new motherboard and some DDR4 RAM.

I'd say this is a solid build though, it's very pretty looking haha.

Well that settles it. I was looking at replacing the GPU this summer but was torn between that and the CPU/MB/RAM upgrade, especially with Ryzen's release. Looks like CPU is the way to go. Thanks mate.

Who says the old FX are out? they are becoming more cheaper because of Ryzen coming to the market. I still do gaming on my old FX 6300 and it can still cope with most of the games out there:v just bidding for time until the new R-5 or R-3 is released and a good ITX board to go with it and all the issues that come along with it is fixed then maybe I will be retiring o'l FX for good. Great build man.

Its just poor performance all around, even with the cheap prices. They run really hot, eat up tons of power, and don't truly provide an "8 core" experience because of the architecture. Performance will be at least 25% better on competing Ryzen or Intel (even R3 and i3) if not more. They're just a poor buy all around and are over 4 years old. I've noticed the people who say "FX aren't out" and they "work fine" have never ever tried a better CPU, and simply don't know what their missing.
