This build was basically an upgrade over the course of a month. The old parts were showing their age, especially in 1080p gaming.
The upgrade began with the CPU, motherboard, and RAM. I wanted to be on the newest platform and wanted good performance, so Skylake was the best choice. The price of DDR4 RAM has decreased drastically over the last two or so years as well, so that was a no-brainer.
The rest of the parts then quickly accumulated as well. Silence, or at least as close to silent as I could get was important to me. The best looking case that delivered this on a budget was the Phanteks Eclipse P400S. The only downside about this case is that it's a complete fingerprint magnet.
The only parts that came from the old build were the cooler and HDD.
The SSD was really cheap, but that's because it's a refurb, so I'm hoping that'll last.
