Description

Welcome to my unexpected build that immediately became into a money pit. My old build which was a Phenom II X6 1090t paired with a GTX 460 SC wasn't cutting it for me anymore. It all started with an R9 380 which I had planned to put in my old build and told myself that it would be the only thing I would upgrade. After having the card for a week I realized it still did not meet my standards, RMA'd the card back and bought me a R9 390 and it all goes downhill from this point! I bought the parts since early December and completed everything by the first week of January. Some of the purchases were completely unnecessary, but what can I do the PC Master Race was calling for me!

PROCESSOR AND WATER COOLER: I decided to go for the i5-4690k because of budget limitations. This build was meant for gaming and a little bit of photo editing so I thought that it would be just enough for what I will be doing. The 4690k paired with the H110i GT has been looking pretty solid so far, temps while gaming has stayed bellow 43°C.

GRAPHICS CARD: Like I mentioned above, I started off with the MSI R9 380 and decided that it wasn't really enough for my liking. A week later I picked up the R9 390. It has been performing really well so far, I have been playing Battlefield 4 and Battlefront using Max settings at 1080p. GTA 5 in the other hand has been a pain with the recent Crimson Drivers that they just released. FPS drops at random occasions has been annoying me to the point that I just stopped playing the game. Other than that I love the card, but I will be upgrading again soon to a GTX 980 Ti!

MOTHERBOARD: I picked up the MSI Z97 - GAMING 5 because of the deal that I got at that time and I wanted it to match with my GPU and my RAM. BIOS was very easy to navigate, and will be a good board for future overclocking plans.

CASE: I decided to go for the Corsair 760T White ATX Full Tower because of the very appealing big a** window! This was probably the most unnecessary part of this whole build because I could've used my old case which was a Carbide 400R. I don't really regret spending the extra money for this case because it looks really nice, and it is in fact very spacious and perfect for my Black/White with a Hint of Red theme! The airflow has been great as well, I added an extra Corsair AF 120 Fan on the bottom of the case, and switched out the rear exhaust fan to a AF 140 quiet edition.

POWER SUPPLY: I went with the EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 80+ GOLD because of the deal that was offered at that time. It is a Fully Modular power supply and has been keeping my rig running flawlessly since day 1. I also decided to spend more money on unnecessary stuff by getting some EVGA G2 Individually sleeved cables. Not necessary at all but helps add more style points and keeps the cables looking clean.

That basically sums up this build, basic clean and functional build that allows me to get some Photography edits done, college work, and best of all PC gaming!

UPDATE!: I finally started some overclocking after doing some research. The CPU is now sitting at 4.2 GHz, and the Voltage is at 1.2V.

02/27/16 Painted the front bezel and other individual pieces white to get more of the white theme that I want.

Not necessarily true. If the camera is complete crap the picture will look like complete crap.

I bought the parts since early December and completed everything by the first week of January 16. Lol great build, any overclockin'? FPS rates? +1

Haha, the want for more POWAAA will never stop! No overclocking as of now and I have yet to do some test with the setup. I will definitely do an update on here when I get it done one of these days though.

Nice photos (and build). +1 But what is the white platform on top of the case?

A little table that he can rest his swag on at night.

Thank you! I made the stands for the top cover too high, but I guess it benefits the airflow of my rad plus I can rest my swag on it at night XD

That GPU is awesome and OP for 1080p...the drivers aren't that bad, but definitely not bad enough to fully impede any gaming. Keep it, I'm sure the drivers will only get better as they have recently.

I have a Nikon D7100, it's all in the editing lol I mainly wanted an all white build because of the overall clean and simple look. I'll settle for my color scheme right now and change it up later on though. I'm glad everyone is digging it!

hows the case?

  • 1 point

The case is great, lots of room to work with. The two doors are detachable and cable management is a breeze. The only thing I hate is the plexiglass, it attracts dust like crazy. The top cover can be annoying as well at times. I had to make my own cover stands so I won't have to remove the cover every time

ok, thanks

would you recommend the 760T over Phanteks Enthoo Luxe White?

  • 1 point

It really depends on what would appeal to you. I picked the 760T because of the massive window. Beware that the 760T will flex and twist easily without the doors, but with them on the case is pretty solid. I'm pretty sure the Phanteks Enthoo wouldn't have that issue at all. If your budget allows it I would definitely recommend it. If not the Phanteks Enthoo would be the best buy to be honest.

ok, thanks

anything else i should know

  • 1 point

That's pretty much it man, I recommend getting some filters for it too. The top of the case without the cover could potentially suck in a lot of dust in the long run.

I have been playing Battlefield 4 and Battlefront using Max settings at 1080p.

Nice build.

I have the same MB and GPU but I did a mistake going with not OC PCU (4690).. and buying 1080 monitor.

This GPU can play 4K (mixed - mid and high settings)...

  • 1 point

Thank you! I almost bought the 4690 as well, and I have a 1080p monitor right now too. I don't think I'll jump into the 4k side of life yet though.

  • 1 point

The thing is that 4690 have a turbo boost which gives you 3.9 so I am happy with it for now. But can't get rid of thoughts that I could've play 4K... Going to sell my new ASUS VG248QE monitor and buy 4k one. 4K is 4K you know. :)

Thank you very much! I am glad that everyone is loving this build. I aimed for a clean and simple build that would be appealing to myself. I did not expect the positive feedback from everyone else at all so I'm very thankful! I will be getting something for this build today and will definitely update everyone in here!
