Description

It's been a long time since I actually got to build for myself; I kept building for friends, but I caved recently and got myself a present. I just finished everything tonight, and I didn't run into any problems except with front case fan mounting on the push pull with the rad being 140mm wide on the h115i ... the rad and the from case fans ended up wanting to go through the same place. I had to compromise and mount the rad as intended and the front case fans with double sided foam tape. It doesn't cause any problems though. Everything else went as planned, and next month the gtx 970 will become a 1070. :D eventually I'll add a 2tb storage drive, and probably put the drive-cage floor mounted behind the radiator. I was going to originally, but then I decided to save some money and go SSD only for now.

I did scare myself by putting two sticks of ram in the wrong slots and causing a nice no signal on boot, but ... luckily that's all it was, because I got confident and did my cable management before powering on.

Really like this build. Just a question what set up are you using for the coloured lighting etc. Goes very well with that case!!

It's "eTopxizu Computer RGB LED Light Strip with Remote control." It comes with two 11 inch strips of led lights, and they adhere with foam tape, so you have to be sure where you want them. And thank you :)

Where exactly did you place your strips? I love the crisp clean look.

Cool build! What did you use for the RGB lighting?

eTopxizu Computer RGB LED Light Strip with Remote control is the name of it. I'm indecisive on colors so I wanted an option that would let me change colors all the time.

Thanks for posting this info. I'm thinking of buying an LED kit for my rig. How does it get power?

I'll double check when I get home, I don't think it draws much.

if it's a narwhal are you planning on putting a stick or something to come out the top? ;D

Nice clean build but the name keeps making me think of the 'Can you feel it now Donald Trump' kid... Your build is beautiful and triggering. +1

Your trouble with the push pull arrangement on the front is because the R5 supports only the 140mm rad or the 140mm front mounted fans, not both.

I like the white color, I also have an R5 and monochrome is such an elegant solution to building in fractal design cases I think. Bit of a light graphics card for the rest of the hardware, I'm looking at your 850w PSU and wondering what it's for! However you didn't say "gaming build" anywhere so who am I to judge. +1

It's for when I have more money and add things later :) I didn't want to wait to build, but I'm getting a 1070 next month. I got the 970 cheap so I can sell it with as little loss possible since I'll be swapping so quickly.

Oh and thank you on the info as to why my front configuration was a pita. I was bound and determined to have all 140mm fans and a 280mm rad, just because so I made it work. :D

That sounds perfect great idea to hop on the secondhand market with the most sought after card of the past year. And sometimes some adhesive is what a build needs ;). You should see the WD HDD I have strapped into the 5.25" bay in my define R5 :3

Very nice ... ... On one if my previous builds, I lost the special mounting hardware for hard drives. It was a Cooler Master Storm Scout case ... so instead of requesting new mounting hardware and waiting, I used pull ties to suspend mount my back up hard drive. Sometimes my impatience will really show here and there in my builds.

Thanks, It showed up first and I didn't want to wait. It ended up working out really well though.

Very nice build, thinking about using the 5820K myself due to the nice core count. And +1 for LED's, always a nice touch.

Thank you, yeah I like the 5820k; I went with it for cores and overclock potential. Now I just need to see if everything cooperates tonight when I try.

I am looking to buy the same case. Does it only come with one fan in the back?

Does it come with fans in the front where the dust filter is?
