Description

Hello PCPP! This is my first ever build! I completed this project around the end of March. I've wanted a higher-end PC since Christmas of 2012.

A lot has changed since that holiday season. I was on Ebay , looking for gaming computers. I was about 12 at the time. There was this nifty seller offering prebuilt "college ready" PCs. I decided then and there that my budget was $600. I don't remember much about my original part selection, but I do remember that I had picked out the Cougar Spike case. I look back and cringe. I never did get that PC, because I never could convince my parents that it was a worthy investment. No hard feelings though.

This build started out with a hard $800 budget, and while I wouldn't say I totally blew it out of the water, I did purchase peripherals, which totaled about $325 in their own right, which DID stress my wallet, let alone going nearly $300 over budget with the machine itself. Oh well, it's sick, and it's mine.

Regrets many months later: Should've spent the money I wasted on a color matching motherboard in a windowless case towards a better graphics card.

Your gpu reminded me of the Galaxy Gtx 770 HOF card. Look it up, a true beauty.

Nice start, just need a touch up when the pascal comes out~~

I had wet dreams about that card while refining this list. I couldn't fit it into the budget, and I wanted to go after the newer architecture. I bet two of my 950's would look cool in SLI(regardless of the fact that performance gains would be minimal), but two HOF 770s? Hnnnnnggggg.

Did you get the 2GB or 4GB GTX 950?

There are no 4GB 950's, you must be thinking of the 960

As far as I'm concerned, they're not "out" until I can pick them up from the Newegg or wherever, and I wanna wait and see if there are any fantastically cooler designs from other parties :o

Literally gasped at that typo, wow, I'll fix that ASAP haha

I do some moderate gaming, yep! I drive a 28" 1080p Asus IPS panel, through Displayport. Some favorite titles include Space Engineers, in which I never fall under 50FPS; CS:GO, in which I average around 200-300FPS, never falling under 90; BeamNG Drive gets VERY solid performance for what it is, and I rarely fall under 50FPS. As best I can perceive, the 950 is an extreeeeemely underrated card, and it is serving me superbly, and I'm very pleased with the 5820K's showmanship as well.
